Scar Revision

Scar revision is surgery to improve or reduce the appearance of scars. It also restores function, and corrects skin changes (disfigurement) caused by an injury, wound, or previous surgery.

Many people have scarring which can be easily managed. Scars post appendectomy, caesarean section or tummy tuck etc can make us quite self-conscious and cause unnecessary discomfort and distress. Scar tissue forms as skin heals after an injury (such as an accident) or surgery. The amount of scarring may be determined by the wound size, depth, and location; the person's age, heredity, and skin characteristics including colour (pigmentation).

What we do:

We provide a scar revision service in which the scar is reduced significantly and the new wound closed very carefully with the best cosmetic results guaranteed. No scar can be removed completely. How much the scar improves will depend on the direction and size of the scar, the age of the person, the skin type and colour, and hereditary factors that may affect the healing process, and of course the care you give it for the first few weeks as it heals.

When to have scar revision done is not always clear. Scars shrink and become less noticeable as they age. You may be able to wait for surgical revision until the scar lightens in colour, which can be several months or even a year after the wound has healed. For some scars, however, it is best to have revision surgery 60-90 days after the scar matures. Our doctor will be able to advise you on this at your consultation.

Reconstruction

Reconstructive surgery of ear lobes, ear pinna, nostrils etc. Tears from heavy jewellery (eg earrings, nose rings) can cause disfigurement of soft tissue and cartilage of ears and nostrils.

Our doctor can suture and reconstruct these areas so that they no longer look disfigured. Scar revision can be performed on areas such as eye brow, lip and naval for areas that have been left scarred by piercings. Best cosmetic results guaranteed.

Stitches Removal

If you have had stitches inserted to heal a wound or following surgery we can remove them quickly and with minimal discomfort, if any. Following a consultation, our doctor will remove sutures from any part of the body.

Suturing of all kinds of wounds with the best cosmetic results, immediately on the spot with no need for GP referral.
